The Day and the Night of the Architecture 2018 is a continuation of a legacy perpetuated for more than three decades by the students of Master 2 in architecture in Tournai. This year we have been joined by some Master 1 students eager to join the adventure. Initially a simple ball end of the year committee, the event has evolved greatly since and has opened to the general public.
The ASBL Day and Night of Architecture mobilizes the students of the LOCI Faculty of the Tournai site of the Catholic University of Louvain in order to revive punctually architecture obsolete, the time of a day and a night, through cultural events. The event brings together all types of artists who have come to enrich the cloud of architecture and the arts. It is a multicultural moment of free expression, an opportunity to share our passion with the greatest number. In the style of a major architectural festival, the artistic activities of the Architecture Day are extended during the musical evening. Nearly 5000 people are expected each year!
The JNDA is above all the experience of a joint project, realized by a group of students who wish to share with the public their tastes and talents for architecture and art.
This project is therefore the result of the autonomous and assiduous investment of budding architects. We worked on organizing this event for 7 months, including 3 weeks of construction. The JNDA has become an iconic milestone at the end of architectural studies in Tournai.It is also an opportunity for us to realize a full-scale architecture project: we face the realities of the field directly. We must simultaneously manage real constraints such as construction site, financing, legal framework, scenography, cultural programming or the reception of the public.
However, the quality and the challenge of the project are ephemeral. The event wants to positively mark the spirits while maintaining a context spatio-temporal action very concise. Past the event, it will be time to restitute to the ground and architecture its first poetic framework, that of a wasteland waiting to be activated again.
